South America Recap

We've made it successfully made it back home after 2 1/2 months in South America without writing any most blog posts.  Why so few posts this time? Our SA trip turned out to be much more adventurous and active than our earlier travels.  We were constantly moving and probably saw as many sights in the last 2 months as we did in the previous 5.  Our travels also took us to many remote, desolate areas without internet access (or even electricity).  When there was internet it was often dial-up slow and typically not secure enough, at least by our standards, for posting pics; and, truthfully, we were having too much fun travelling together and enjoying the travel experience. :)

After Torres del Paine, we travelled by the seat of our pants, choosing our next destination based on advice from other travelers, weather, and availability of cheap travel options.  We ended up in places we never expected to visit and saw sights we had never heard of.  Some of the highlights included Cape Horn, Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, and Manu Reserve in Peru.

Here is a map of our general route.  Most of the travel was overland with the exception of getting to Patagonia (Santiago to Puerto Natales) and from Patagonia to northern Chile (Punta Arenas to Calama/San Pedro).
