Music and watches in Singapore

Greetings from Singapore. We're in S'pore tonight, and tomorrow we'll be checking out the Indian Festival of Lights (Deepawali) here in the Little India neighborhood. We're also looking forward to assembling our 4th international shipment of mail back home. As we get to carry every souvenir we buy, it serves as a constant reminder of how much lighter our normal bags weigh.

This shipment will include a variety of items picked up in Cambodia. Among them, a zippo from the Vietnam War (likely fake), and 2 or 3 designer watches purchased at the 'Russian' market in Phnom Pehn, each costing about $10. Something tells me that Omega and Cartier didn't decide to introduce a line of entry-level watches in Cambodia this fall, and judging by the small imperfections spotted about 5 seconds after leaving the vendor's stall, I'm pretty sure they are some of these 'craft replicas' I keep hearing about. There are also a large collection of silk and cotton items in scarf and t-shirt form, but I can't offer any more details on these as they are Christmas gift bound upon arrival back home. There are also handmade bracelets from the orphanage for children injured in land mine accidents located at the land mine museum in Siem Reap. We picked the bracelets over the replication grenade and jewelry made out of disassembled mines.

We also get to do laundry soon, which we're both looking forward to. After rotating through the collection of shirts and shorts I have, I'm starting to run out of things that still smell 'decent'.

There's a chance we'll be changing hotel rooms after tonight. It's noisy, there's toilet paper from the previous tenant left lying behind the toilet, and the quality of the wall construction allows a informal venue for arguing with your neighbors and yelling without having to open your door onto the hallway.    I would call it S.O.A.P., space of auditory permissiveness. Not to worry though, there's a interesting hotel across the street we may check into - Wanderlust. Here's an interesting description of the hotel group's concept around this unlisted property - http://www.unlistedcollection.com/about.php

Hope everyone back home is getting into the Halloween spirit. But seriously, looking forward to seeing some great costume photos. Especially from you Kurt. But no Michelle Bachman, please!

As the title mentioned, their is music to be written about. Christy and I have been listening to our ipod collections more and more, me with new music, and her with educational podcasts on speaking foreign languages.
