Thailand: Checking in from Koh Phi Phi

Hello everyone,

I wanted to give you all a quick update since we've (again) been MIA.  We've spent the last 6 days on Koh Phi Phi (said pee pee), a tiny tropical island near Phuket. It's pretty rustic and internet is sparse here, so you'll have to wait for some more pics but Tony and I are doing well; however I've been a little under the weather the last few days with our first bout of foreign illness. :P  Turns out, that anti-malarials may not only make you sick while you take them but once you stop as well.  We'd been taking doxycycline for about 8 days during our time in Chiang Mai and stopped once we arrived in Phuket. The day after stopping the meds I ended up with up with a fever and on-going nausea that lasted for 5 days.  This led to a trip to the Koh Phi Phi hospital, blood tests, and a prescription for anti-nausea meds.  I'm doing much better now. :)  Tony was really awesome.  He took great care of me and was extraordinarily patient.  Moral of the story is, don't take the cheap antimalarials (get the Malarone or skip it altogether).

Alrighty, we've got to head out before the tide traps us at this restaurant til morning!

  1. Ha ha! Tell that to our resort that wants to charge US$5/hr for the slowest internet connection ever. :)
